Healthy U is an evidence-based, interactive workshop for people living with one or more chronic health conditions, and/or their caregivers. Chronic conditions include any ongoing health problem or disease such as diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, cancer, depression, COPD, chronic pain, or others. This evidence-based chronic disease self-management program strives to help people learn to better manage symptoms, communications, stress, activity level, and so much more. Participants receive the latest information in recently updated resource books along with relaxation and exercise cds.
Healthy U Leaders co-lead at least one workshop per year following the script developed by the Self-Management Resource Center. Workshops meet weekly for six weeks for approximately 2-hour sessions during weekdays. These are conducted in community settings throughout our 9-county region, and we currently offer a limited number of full online workshops via Zoom or as one-hour telephone discussion groups. Leaders choose workshops that fit their schedules. Leaders often live with their own chronic health conditions and benefit from the program just as much as their participants.
Leaders who execute an agreement with the Agency are paid a stipend of $25 per session for a maximum of $150 total per workshop upon submission of workshop paperwork, subject to continued funding from the Ohio Department of Aging. Additional stipends are possible for recruitment and retention, again subject to continued funding.
