A winter storm is predicted to bring extreme cold temperatures to Ohio over the next few days. Prepare yourself with supplies for warmth and safety in case of power outages and icy roads, and check now that older neighbors and family members are prepared as well. This includes bottled water for continued hydration, food that doesn’t require cooking, warm blankets and clothing, enough quantities of medications on-hand, pet food supplies, flashlights and extra batteries, a battery-operated radio, etc. Check regularly to ensure their personal safety and help to keep their walkways cleared if possible. The Ohio Department of Aging provides tips on checking on neighbors, and on emergency preparedness for older adults and caregivers.
