Wellness Programs

As we age, it’s vitally important that we stay physically, mentally, and emotionally active.

The Area Agency on Aging offers free wellness programs presented either virtually or at community locations throughout our nine-county region. We appreciate your interest and hope to meet you at a future workshop. Read more about our programs in detail below.

Healthy Living

Healthy Living provides evidence-based, interactive, small-group workshops that are proven to help people living with ongoing medical conditions to manage symptoms better, meet personal goals, and live healthier, happier days. These are open to adults and family caregivers.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Our 6-week workshops are proven to improve health and well-being for people living with long-term/chronic health conditions. You set your own goals, your own priorities, and follow your own timeline week-by-week to find what steps work best for you. Three effective, evidence-based programs developed by the Self-Management Resource Center are offered:

  • Healthy Living with Chronic Conditions to manage day-to-day concerns and symptoms for long-term/ongoing health concerns.
  • Healthy Living with Diabetes to manage and prevent prediabetes and Type 2 Diabetes.
  • Healthy Living with Chronic Pain to help alleviate the impact of chronic pain on each day.

TOPICS INCLUDE:

  • Physical activity to improve strength, flexibility, and endurance
  • Managing stress, frustration fatigue, pain, depression
  • Communicating with doctors and family about your health
  • The impact of nutrition on energy, mood, and pain
  • Using medications safely and appropriately
  • Achieving personal goals

  • Improve physical and social activity
  • Increase energy and reduce fatigue
  • Reduce healthcare spending
  • Improve confidence and well-being
  • Help reduce emergency room visits and hospitalizations

Matter of Balance

Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase the activity levels of older adults who have concerns about falls.

PARTICIPANTS LEARN TO:

  • View falls as controllable
  • Set goals for increasing activity
  • Make changes to reduce fall risks at home
  • Exercise to increase strength and balance

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Anyone who is:

  • Concerned about falls
  • Interested in improving balance, flexibility, and strength
  • Who has fallen in the past
  • Who has restricted activities because of falling concerns

Powerful Tools for Caregivers

In this free 6-week class, family caregivers learn how to care for themselves while caring for others. Whatever your age or caregiving circumstances, this class can benefit you.

Aging Mastery Program

The Aging Mastery Program® (AMP) aims to help millions of older adults take key steps to improve their well-being, add stability to their lives, and strengthen their ties to communities.

With AMP, you will:

  1. Create your own playbook for aging well
  2. Learn with your peers
  3. Make new friends!
