Dayton Senior Safe Program

October 13, 2025

Recognizing that older adults can be more vulnerable to isolation, medical emergencies, or extreme weather conditions, The Dayton Fire Department launched a compassionate and strategic initiative to check in on older residents through the Dayton Senior Safe Program providing lifesaving wellness checks.

The program involves regular check-in phone calls and text messages to older adults from the Fire Department personnel to assess physical safety and offer companionship and a sense of security. Personnel will ask simple and important questions, such as:

  • “Are you feeling okay today?”
  • “Is your home safe and warm?”
  • “Do you have everything you need?”

Every month, Dayton Fire gets delayed notifications for assistance because people can’t call 911 due to a fall or medical emergency. The goal of the program is to speed up those notifications, bring reassurance to our vulnerable populations, while preventing crises before they escalate. The Dayton Senior Safe Program can also provide companionship, physical safety and a sense of security for the older adult.

In a world where isolation is common and can be dangerous, Dayton’s fire and emergency medical personnel are highlighting the importance of care, connection and service throughout their Dayton Senior Safe Program. Learn more and register here.
