According to the National Institute of Health, nearly 1 million adults 65 and older live with substance use disorder. While the information on how drugs and alcohol affect the aging brain is limited, we know that social and physical changes associated with aging may increase the vulnerability to substance misuse. This training will explore the growing public health concern of substance use disorder among older adults and the need for increased awareness and support.
Participants will explore the unique challenges faced by older adults and the various factors contributing to addiction. By understanding the signs, symptoms, and treatment options available, participants will be better equipped to support older adults struggling with addiction and help them maintain a healthy and fulfilling life.

Dr. Marketa Robinson, Ph.D, M.Ed, is the Executive Director of the Urban Minority Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Outreach Program (UMADAOP of Dayton). Dr. Robinson is certified as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor and Ohio Certified Prevention Consultant with over 20 years of experience in treatment and prevention. Her career focus has been to improve the well-being and life choices of those we serve and increase access and availability of quality services.
Michael Mann is the Senior Coordinator for UMADAOP of Dayton. Mr. Mann is an Ohio Certified Prevention Consultant with more than 20 years of experience in the field of Prevention. He specializes in older adult wellness and has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to advancing health and recovery outcomes for older adults across diverse communities.
This workshop offers 3.0 clock hours for social workers, #RSX089101. The Ohio Board of Nursing accepts events approved for counselors and social workers for continuing nursing education.
Cost: $40 for CEUs or $20 without CEUs.
