Nearly 50% of U.S. Veterans are over the age of 65, with Ohio having the 8th largest Veteran population in the country. No matter your role or position in the aging industry, it is critical to have an understanding of Veteran benefits to help direct older adults, in your personal and professional life, to appropriate resources. With over 2,500 employees, the Dayton VA serves over 40,000 Veterans a range of beneficial services including medical care, burial benefits, caregiver support services and more!

Attendees will explore services offered by VA health care, be presented with a comprehensive overview of the benefits available through the National Cemetery Administration, explore VA Caregiver Support Services and learn how to connect older adults to these services.

Participants will be able to:

  • Learn and identify the basics of VA health care and how to enroll or reengage with VA Health.
  • Learn and identify what National Cemetery Administration benefits include, eligibility requirements, and how to receive benefits.
  • Gain knowledge surrounding the VA Caregiver Support Program, learn eligibility and how to connect.
  • Be able to appropriately direct older adults to VA benefits.

Presenters:

  • Gregory Tucker is the Outreach Manager and Public Affairs Specialist at the Dayton VA. He is a retired U.S. Navy Veteran who is passionate about connecting Veterans to the services they are eligible for.
  • Nick Hetzer is the Program Specialist at the Dayton National Cemetery. He is a retired U.S. Navy Veteran with 22 years of service. He has worked at the Dayton National Cemetery for 14 years.
  • Andrea Wingo, MSW, LISW-S, has worked at the Dayton VA for 27 years in various roles. Andrea has served as the Caregiver Support Coordinator for the past four years.
