The Ohio Department of Aging and LeadingAge Ohio Launch AdultDayOhio.org

The Ohio Department of Aging (ODA) and LeadingAge Ohio created a way for Ohioans to learn about adult day services through AdultDayOhio.org. Adult day services benefit the community by offering an affordable alternative to traditional long-term care placement and allowing older adults who need support to remain in their homes longer.

The new website will include the following information:

• Explore frequently asked questions and guidance for caregivers, health care providers and referral sources.
• Help Ohioans understand the value and benefits of adult day service.
• Access the comprehensive directory of adult day centers across Ohio.

“At the Ohio Department of Aging, one of our goals is to help Ohioans age where they are most comfortable – in their communities,” said ODA Director Ursel J. McElroy. “With the new AdultDayOhio.org website and in-person events in February and March, we intend to make sure Ohioans know how adult day services can help them meet their needs while also providing older adults treasured moments of social interaction.”

“Adult day services are not as widely known across Ohio. As one focus group participant put it, ‘They’re the best kept secret in health care.’ We want to change that,” said LeadingAge Ohio President and CEO Susan Wallace. “Adult day programs’ essential services are an important component of the continuum of care – providing person-centered activities and opportunities for life-enriching socialization outside of the home, while allowing the caregivers to continue employment and have time for respite.”

Free educational events will be hosted in February and March to educate on the benefits of adult day services and connect individuals to providers in the community. Ohioans can register for an event at AdultDayOhio.org/events.
