Free Caregiver Events in April

March 12, 2026

The Area Agency on Aging offers free activities for family caregivers and professionals working with older adults in April:

Safety with Mobility and Transfer Training – 11am-Noon Wednesday, April 8 online via Zoom. This free online workshop focuses on safely assisting your loved one around the house, addressing falls prevention, recovery education, proper body mechanics, and when and how to request a referral for Occupational Therapy and/or Physical Therapy when there is a change in mobility. Presenter is Occupational Therapist Eliza Brandenburg, a Kettering College graduate with 10 years of experience working with older adults in a variety of healthcare settings.

Caregiver Coffee Conversations, 11am-Noon Thursday, April 16, online via Zoom. This is a new quarterly virtual program bringing caregivers together from throughout our nine-county region to connect and discuss matters of the heart and topics related to caregiving. This month’s discussion will include Are You Burned Out? Recognizing Caregiver Burnout, featuring co-host Kristie Wilson from Dayton Metro Libraries. Join us for an open conversation about the signs and symptoms of caregiver burnout, learn practical ways to recognize when you may need support, and explore strategies to reduce stress and restore balance while caring for a loved one.

Community-Building as a Caregiver Sustainability Framework, 11am-Noon Thursday, April 23, hybrid. This discussion is taking place in-person at the Logan County Friendly Senior Center, 934 S. Main St., Bellefontaine, or can be attended virtually via Zoom. Caregiving is frequently described as a labor of love, and caregivers frequently feel very alone in their responsibilities caring for those they love and respect most. Attend this free hybrid workshop to discuss how to build a support community to help feel not so alone, and strengthened in providing better care overall for others and yourself. Presenter is Gwyn Stetler, Executive Director of the Logan County Friendly Senior Center who also holds a Master’s degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling from the Methodist Theological School in Ohio.

Registration 2 days in advance of the event dates is required in order to receive the Zoom links. Please contact Caregiver Services Coordinator Mary Hairston at 937-341-6944 or mhairston@info4seniors.org. Information on these and other Agency programs is available on this calendar link.
