Join our team of committed, caring Healthy U leaders and make a difference in your community. Healthy U was developed for adults who either live with chronic health conditions or are caregivers for loved ones with chronic conditions. Participants are empowered to make decisions and set individual goals that enhance their well-being and improve their health through weekly workshop sessions and practice using the proven tools.
No teaching or medical experience is required to be a Healthy U leader. In fact, the most effective leaders are people who use program tools to manage their own health concerns and can relate to the challenges of their participants. Two trained lay leaders facilitate each Healthy U workshop and model skills and activities in strict adherence to the training manuals provided. Leaders focus on process to help create a sense of connection between group members and leaders in a safe and caring environment of mutual learning and support.
The first step is to apply for and successfully complete the required leader training. We are offering the four-day core training in the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program on December 11, 12, 19, and 20 in Dayton. Roundtrip mileage to the training site is reimbursed upon completion of training. Application deadline is November 15, 2019.
Once certified, Leaders must accept a minimum of one workshop assignment per calendar year for each program in which they are trained. Each workshop consists of six weekly sessions that last 2 to 2.5 hours each. Leaders who execute an agreement with the agency are paid a stipend of $25 per session for a maximum of $150 total per workshop upon submission of workshop paperwork, subject to continued funding from the Ohio Department of Aging.
Consider sharing your caring to help others feel less alone and more in control of their health.
