The Office of Ohio Consumers’ Counsel (OCC) makes us aware that increases in some electric bills are expected to begin in June 2023 due to recent supply auctions. The Standard Service Offer (SSO) for the per-kilowatt-hour price of generating electricity is generally the way to save money but with recent market volatility consumers can likely find better electric offers from some marketers and government aggregators than their utility’s standard offer. Energy Choice allows eligible consumers to choose their electric and/or natural gas from a certified energy supplier. This could be a way to save in utility bills, but consumers are encouraged to do their homework and stay on top of the market to risk overpaying.
